It later purchased 14 Flanigan furniture stores in Western New York, and Raymour & Flanigan was formed. The company began in 1947 with the opening of the Raymours Furniture Store in Syracuse, N.Y. Raymour & Flanigan has over 90 stores in seven states, with 19 stores in New Jersey. The store’s promixity to the Outlets at Bergen Town Center, directly across the Route 4, also made the space attractive to the furniture chain. The two-story configuration, however, was “the perfect match” for Raymour & Flanigan’s requirements, said Joseph Lowry, Levin’s senior vice president of leasing and acquisitions, in a statement. The former Daffy’s space, which closed after that retailer went out of business, is a two-story building, which can be difficult to lease in shopping centers, because retailers typically want ground-floor access and single-level stores. Raymour & Flanigan is preparing to open its first outlet store in New Jersey in Bridgewater this month. They differ from the company’s clearance centers, which sell “as is” furniture that may have been returned or on display previously in showrooms. The company’s outlet stores sell value-priced new merchandise, for customers looking for lower-priced options not sold in the full-line showrooms, the spokeswoman said. Raymour & Flanigan already has one of its full-line showrooms in Paramus, less than two miles away, on northbound Route 17. The Raymour & Flanigan outlet store will join a dozen other furniture stores along a one-mile stretch of Route 4 in Paramus. There’s been a leasing boom for furniture stores in Paramus in recent years, as the furniture industry has rebounded after a wave of store closings during the recession. The outlet store is expected to open later this year, according to a Raymour & Flanigan spokeswoman. And is a leasing coup for Levin Management, the property manager and leasing agent for the center, giving them a tenant sought by other retail landlords in the area. The leasing deal fills the largest current vacancy in Route 4 in Paramus - the 41,300-square-foot, two-story Daffy’s store empty since 2012. The Raymour & Flanigan furniture chain is preparing to open its first North Jersey outlet store in the former Daffy’s space. The Paramus Place shopping center on Route 4 has landed a prime tenant for a long-vacant space. ![]()
